Sunday Curriculum
Overview |
| |
When
FaithWeaver® was being developed they asked: What
If . . . |
| |
…family
members could get into the car after church and talk
about the same Bible story each
person just experienced? |
| |
| …children could experience
God for themselves in worship? |
| |
| …kids could grow closer
to God through friendships and service to others? |
| |
| …families could grow
in faith together? |
| |
| With FaithWeaver
They Can! |
| |
| Research shows the most
powerful influences on faith development are the conversations
that take place in the home. Faith grows best when the
family and church partner together. The resources have
everyone in Acorns to Oaks studying the same Bible story,
on the same day, in age-appropriate ways. Kids Celebration
and the home are woven together. No matter the age level–Preschool
to Grade 6 –each person leaves Sunday morning with
a common reference point, so the Bible discussions and
application continue outside the church walls. Families
can then think about, talk about and actively live their
faith–together–throughout the week. FaithWeaver
is more than just learning Bible facts. It’s understanding
and applying God’s Word to everyday life. And it
gives family members common spiritual ground. Now they
can talk about the true Bible adventures that they experienced
Sunday morning as they drive home–and all throughout
the week! |

| Through the Bible
Scope and Sequence |
| |
| The 3-year FaithWeaver®
scope and sequence provides an overview of the Old Testament
every three years (in the Summer and Fall quarters) and
an overview of the New Testament every year (in the Winter
and Spring quarters)! With the Bible as the basis, FaithWeaver
helps everyone know, love and follow Jesus. |
| |
| FaithWeaver makes it EASY
to keep the Bible center stage with Bible-rich resources
that are EASY to prepare and share. Everyone explores
and experiences the same Bible story in age-appropriate,
interactive ways that appeal to all learning styles. Interactions
that move from Bible knowledge to understanding and unforgettable
life application. |
| |
| In FaithWeaver Bible Curriculum,
many elements bring exciting benefits to our learners: |
| |
· Each lesson concentrates
on answering one important question from the
Bible and applying that answer to learners’ lives.
|
| |
| · Scripture memorization
concentrates on understanding and application. |
| |
| · Systematic coverage
of the Bible helps learners put God’s story all
together. |
| |
| · The curriculum
makes Bible learning fun. |
| |
| · Student Books encourage
continued learning at home. |
| |
| · The "Driving
Home the Point" weekly pages equip parents to encourage
kids’ faith growth at home. |
| |
| Here’s an
example from an actual week’s Bible story: |
| |
| Jesus Is Born |
| (Luke 1:26-38; 2:1-20) |
| |
| Key Verse:
I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all
the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been
born to you; he is Christ the Lord. (Luke 2:10b-11) |
| |
| Bible Point:
Jesus was born. |
| |
| Key Question:
Why do we celebrate Christmas? |
| |
| Preschool:
Through stories, songs, rhymes, games, crafts, and a special
puppet show, preschoolers learn that Jesus was born to
show us how much God loves us. With the manger scene they
complete and take home, preschoolers can tell others the
story of Jesus’ birth. |
| |
| Younger Elementary:
Younger elementary students enjoy games, crafts, and an
interactive story time as they learn that God loves us
so much, he sent Jesus so we can be close to God. With
the shepherds or ornaments they create and bring home,
children remember to spread the good news about Jesus. |
| |
| Older Elementary:
Older elementary students explore the Christmas story
from a fresh angle as they learn that Jesus was born to
bring us to God. They brainstorm together ways they can
offer Jesus their gifts. |
| |
| With everyone exploring
the same Bible stories in age-appropriate ways, families
have a common thread, a common Bible story, to tie them
together. Families can then think about, talk about and
actively live their faith–together–throughout
the week. FaithWeaver uses the power of the family to
weave faith into life. |
| |
| With FaithWeaver®,
the Bible Is the Basis for Everything |
| |
| “…from infancy
you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to
make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching,
rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness."
—2 Timothy 3:15-16 |
| |
| How were the Bible
passages chosen? |
| |
| We wanted to balance the
learning between Old and New Testaments, and we chose
the following systematic way to do that: |
| |
| · New Testament.
Because churches like to zero in on Jesus’ birth
at Christmastime and his death and resurrection at Easter,
we decided to build our winter and spring quarters around
those events plus the other material in the New Testament.
Each year during winter and spring quarters, the lessons
walk through one of the synoptic Gospel accounts (Matthew,
Mark, and Luke) and draw additional material from John.
December focuses on events leading up to and including
Jesus’ birth. After that, through the rest of the
winter and early spring, the lessons take students through
Jesus’ life and ministry, leading up to Easter.
After Easter and through the rest of the spring quarter,
the curriculum focuses on events and teaching of the early
church. |
| |
| · Old Testament.
To effectively help students understand the Old Testament
as a whole, students will walk through it chronologically
during the summer and fall quarters. Every three years,
students will cover the entire Old Testament, beginning
with Genesis in the first fall quarter, and ending with
some of the minor prophets in the final summer quarter.
In the process, students will be able to connect all the
Bible stories into one complete story–the story
of God’s working among and through imperfect people.
|
| |
| In addition to using the
FaithWeaver curriculum, we will involve elementary students
in quarterly service projects. These projects will be
described in a flyer you will receive with your quarterly
schedule. If you have suggestions for service projects
please notify the Pastor to Children and Families or the age appropriate Coordinator. |
